Removal of the front fork (1200 S ABS)
Disconnect the fork compression and rebound sensors from the main wiring (A).
Release the spring preload.
Use the tool 88713.3465 to loosen the fork upper plug.
Remove the forks as described in the removal of the forks of model 1200 ABS (Sect. 7 - 10.1, Refitting the front fork (1200 ABS)).
Overhauling the fork
Disassembly of the forks
Unscrew the upper plug, using the Öhlins service tool no.  88713.3465.
Loosen the lock nut of the upper plug retaining the damper rod by holding the nut.
Remove the spring preload tube.
Remove the rebound damping adjuster rod and then the counter nut.
Turn the leg upside down to let the oil run out.
Separate the leg from the outer tube.
It is now possible to renew the seals.
Remove the dust seal from its seat in the outer tube.
Remove the circlip.
Remove the oil seal and spacer.
Use tool no. 88713.3527 and bush no. 88713.3529 to remove the first sliding bush.
Then remove the second sliding bush, using a plastic mallet.
Reassembly of the fork
To refit the sliding bushes use bush no. 88173.3528 and insert it in the tool no. 88713.3529, using a plastic mallet.
Warning
Refit the sliding bush with the smaller outside diameter first and then fit the sliding bush with the larger outside diameter.
Insert the oil seal and spacer.
Refit the circlip.
Fit the dust seal.
It is now possible to join the leg with the outer tube.
Fill the fork with new oil to the correct level.
Move the damper rod up and down until oil comes out.
Fit the counter nut and pre-load spacer.
Refit the upper plug completely and tighten the lock nut to the tightening torque.
Tighten the upper plug to the specified torque.
Refit the fork (1200 S ABS)
Refit the forks as described in the fitting of the forks of model 1200 ABS (Sect. 7 - 10.1, Refit the front fork (1200 ABS)).
Connect the fork compression and rebound sensors to the main wiring (A).
